6 Tips to Land the Articleship You Want
What actually makes a difference
- Apply immediately after your result. Big 4 and mid-size firms fill their intake within weeks of result declaration. Don't wait until you feel "ready."
- Email all contacts at a firm, not just one. If a firm lists 3 HR emails, email all 3 — on the same day, in separate emails. HR teams are large and inboxes get missed.
- Personalise each email. Change the firm name and mention something specific about their work or practice area. Generic bulk emails get ignored.
- Follow up once after 5 days. A polite follow-up (Template 2 above) noticeably increases response rates. Once only — not multiple times.
- Don't only target Big 4. Established regional firms like Lodha, V. Singhi, and L B Jha offer excellent training, direct partner exposure, and faster skill-building. Apply across all tiers at once.
- Keep your ICAI registration ready. Once a firm agrees, you must register on the SSP portal quickly — keep all documents ready in advance so there's no delay.

5 Mistakes That Cost Students Their Spot
Avoid these and you're already ahead
- Waiting "a few weeks" after results. By then the best seats are filled. Apply on day one.
- One generic email to 30 firms (visible CC). It screams mass-mail. Send individual emails with the firm's name in the subject.
- A cluttered, 3-page CV. HR scans for 10 seconds. Keep it to one clean page with marks, ICITSS, and contact details up top.
- Picking purely on stipend. The firm that teaches you audit, GST, and client handling is worth far more than ₹2–3k extra a month.
