1. Apply immediately after your result. Big 4 and large mid-size firms in Mumbai fill their intake within weeks of result declaration. Do not wait until you feel "ready."
2. Use the official careers portal for the Big 4. Deloitte, PwC, EY and KPMG run structured campus and off-campus drives — applying through their portal is how you actually get tracked and shortlisted.
3. Personalise every email. Change the firm name and mention something specific about their practice (e.g. their listed-company audit work or tax advisory). Generic bulk emails get ignored.
4. Follow up once after 5 days. A single polite follow-up — "I wanted to check if you had a chance to review my application" — noticeably increases response rates. Once only, not repeatedly.
5. Don't only chase Big 4. Established Mumbai firms like Sharp & Tannan, Bansi S. Mehta, GM Kapadia, CNK and Chaturvedi & Shah offer outstanding training, direct partner exposure and faster skill development. Apply across all three tiers at once.
6. Keep your ICAI registration ready. Once a firm agrees, you must register on the ICAI SSP portal quickly. Keep your documents ready in advance so there is no delay.
