Which CA Final papers does the ICAI Case Scenarios Booklet cover?
ICAI has released separate booklets for Papers 1–5 of CA Final. Each scenario gives you a business situation and asks you to apply Ind AS, standards, laws or valuation principles the way the examiner expects. Open your paper below for its focus areas, the official PDF and our preparation tip.
1 Financial ReportingGroup I
The CA Final Financial Reporting case scenarios test how you apply Ind AS to integrated fact patterns rather than isolated questions.
What should you practise from the FR case scenarios?
- Recognition and measurement under key Ind AS
- Consolidation and business combinations
- Financial instruments and revenue (Ind AS 115)
All 15 FR case scenarios, one PDF each
Our tip: quote the Ind AS number, apply it to the facts, then state a clear conclusion. Marks follow the reasoning, not just the figure.
2 Advanced Financial ManagementGroup I
The CA Final AFM case scenarios combine calculation with judgement, so you must pick the right model and interpret the result.
What should you practise from the AFM case scenarios?
- Derivatives and risk management
- Foreign exchange exposure and hedging
- Business valuation, mergers and portfolio management
Our tip: state every assumption before you compute. It earns step marks even when the final number differs.
3 Advanced Auditing, Assurance and Professional EthicsGroup I
The CA Final Audit case scenarios reward precise, provision-backed answers over general theory.
What should you practise from the Audit case scenarios?
- Standards on Auditing (SAs) applied to engagement facts
- Code of Ethics and professional misconduct
- Company audit, CARO and specialised audits
Our tip: follow facts, provision, analysis, conclusion. Cite the SA or clause number in every answer.
4 Direct Tax Laws and International TaxationGroup II
The CA Final DT case scenarios test computation and interpretation together. ICAI has also issued a corrigendum for this booklet.
What should you practise from the DT case scenarios?
- Income computation, including business income and capital gains
- Assessment procedures and compliance
- International taxation, transfer pricing and DTAAs
Our tip: read the corrigendum first and check the Finance Act applicable to your attempt before solving.
5 Indirect Tax LawsGroup II
The CA Final IDT case scenarios span GST, Customs and FTP, often within one fact pattern.
What should you practise from the IDT case scenarios?
- GST: supply, place of supply, valuation and input tax credit
- Customs: valuation and duty computation
- Foreign Trade Policy provisions
Our tip: quote the section, apply it to each transaction separately, then total the liability.
Why is IBS not included? Paper 6, Integrated Business Solutions, is a multi-disciplinary case study paper. ICAI does not include it in this Case Scenarios Booklet.
How should CA Final students use the case scenarios booklet?
Use the booklet after your first revision, not while learning concepts. Solve each scenario twice: once open-book to build method, once under time pressure to build exam speed. Case scenarios are the core of CA Final exam preparation under the New Scheme.
- Finish one revision of the paper so you know every provision.
- Solve open-book and compare your approach with the ICAI answer.
- Re-solve timed, about 1.8 minutes per mark, in the final month.
- Log your errors by chapter and revise those chapters again.
