CFA Level 1: Administrative & Registration FAQs
The journey to the CFA Charter starts with registration. Understanding the rules of the CFA Institute (CFAI) is critical to ensure your candidacy remains valid throughout the three levels.
1. What are the 2026 Registration Costs?
The 2026 fee structure has been simplified. Note that the $350 enrollment fee is now gone for new registrations:
- Early Bird: $1,140 (Standard registration is $1,490).
- Tax Note: In India, you must account for 18% GST on these fees.
2. What is the "Exam Day" Timeline?
The Computer-Based Test (CBT) is an 180-question sprint. Here is how your 4.5-hour day is divided:
- 30 Mins: Pledge, tutorial, and check-in.
- 135 Mins: Session 1 (90 Questions).
- 30 Mins: Optional break (Highly recommended!).
- 135 Mins: Session 2 (90 Questions).
3. What are the ID and Passport Requirements?
You must have a valid international travel passport to register and sit for the exam. The name on your passport must exactly match your CFA account. PAN Cards or Aadhaar Cards are not accepted at Prometric centers.
The "Only Two" Rule: Approved Calculators
The CFA Institute is extremely strict. You can only bring one of these two models (and we recommend buying two of the same for backup):

Your exam results are released within 60 days. However, your score will be held until you finish your 10-15 hour Practical Skills Module. Ensure you complete this immediately after your exam.
