Exam preparation tips for CA Foundation Business Economics
- ›Respect the negative marking. Leaving a genuinely unknown question blank protects more marks than a guess costs.
- ›Draw every diagram once. Demand, cost and market-form curves are the fastest route to eliminating wrong options in an MCQ.
- ›Do not skip Chapters 7 to 9. Public Finance, Money Market and International Trade are heavily examined and often left until last.
- ›Use the Glossary as a revision tool. Most MCQs in this paper turn on precise definitions.
Is Business and Commercial Knowledge still in CA Foundation?
No. Business and Commercial Knowledge was Section B of CA Foundation Paper 4 under the Old Scheme, where the paper was titled Business Economics and Business and Commercial Knowledge. Under the ICAI New Scheme of Education and Training, BCK was removed and Paper 4 now covers Business Economics alone, across ten chapters plus a glossary.
Frequently asked questions
How many chapters are there in CA Foundation Business Economics?
There are 10 chapters plus a glossary in CA Foundation Business Economics. Chapters 1 to 5 cover microeconomics and business cycles; Chapters 6 to 10 cover national income, public finance, money markets, international trade and the Indian economy.
Is there negative marking in Paper 4 Business Economics?
Yes. Business Economics is an objective paper and incorrect answers carry a penalty, so accuracy matters more than attempting every question. Confirm the current deduction rate in the ICAI notification for your Attempt.
Is Business Economics harder than Accounting?
It is different rather than harder. Accounting rewards practice on numerical problems; Business Economics rewards conceptual precision and definition recall under MCQ conditions. Students from a non-commerce background usually find the theory chapters need more repetition.
Do I need to study the Indian Economy chapter?
Yes. Chapter 10 is part of the examinable syllabus under the New Scheme and is a low-effort, high-return chapter in an objective paper. Do not treat it as optional reading.
Do I still need to study Business and Commercial Knowledge?
Not for CA Foundation. Business and Commercial Knowledge was dropped when ICAI introduced the New Scheme of Education and Training. Paper 4 is now Business Economics only, covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, public finance, money markets and international trade.
