Old Scheme Business Laws RTPs (December 2023 and earlier)
Attempts up to December 2023 were examined under the Old Scheme, where Paper 2 was titled Business Laws and Business Correspondence and Reporting. The Business Laws portion remains useful for question practice. The Business Correspondence and Reporting sections are no longer part of the CA Foundation syllabus and can be skipped.

Acts Covered in the Business Laws RTP
Each Revision Test Paper draws questions across the full Paper 2 syllabus. If you are searching for practice on a specific statute, the RTP is the highest-quality free source available:
- The Indian Contract Act, 1872 — the largest weightage; expect multiple case-based questions per RTP
- The Sale of Goods Act, 1930 — conditions and warranties, transfer of ownership, unpaid seller
- The Indian Partnership Act, 1932 — rights and liabilities of partners, dissolution
- The Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008 — LLP characteristics and distinctions
- The Companies Act, 2013 — types of companies, incorporation, corporate veil
- The Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 — added under the New Scheme
- Indian Regulatory Framework — an overview topic introduced in the New Scheme
How to Use the RTP for a Descriptive Paper
Business Laws is a descriptive paper, so knowing the answer is not the same as scoring it. Marks are awarded for stating the correct provision, applying it to the facts given, and concluding clearly. The RTP's suggested answers are the clearest free demonstration of that expected structure.
1. Write full answers by hand — do not read them
Passive reading creates false confidence in a paper that is scored on written presentation. Write the answer out, then compare against the suggested answer line by line.
2. Follow the Provision → Analysis → Conclusion structure
Open with the relevant section and Act, apply it to the facts in the question, then state your conclusion in a separate sentence. Examiners scan for this three-part structure; an answer with the right conclusion but no stated provision loses marks.
3. Cite the section number where you are confident
A correctly cited section signals precision. Where you are unsure of the number, name the Act and the principle rather than guessing — a wrong section number can undermine an otherwise correct answer.
4. Build a case-law and definition sheet from the RTPs
Extract every definition and illustration from three consecutive RTPs into a single revision sheet. Recurring items across attempts indicate what the Board of Studies is actively testing.
5. Pair the RTP with an MTP and past papers
Each serves a distinct purpose in the final month of preparation:
| Resource | Released | Best used for |
|---|---|---|
| RTP | ~2 months before the attempt | Act-wise revision and learning ICAI's expected answer format |
| MTP | ~3–4 weeks before the attempt | Full-paper writing practice in exact exam format and duration |
| Past Papers | After each attempt concludes | Understanding real difficulty and which Acts carry recurring weightage |

What does CA Foundation Paper 2 Business Laws cover?
Paper 2 covers the Indian Regulatory Framework, the Indian Contract Act 1872, the Sale of Goods Act 1930, the Indian Partnership Act 1932, the Limited Liability Partnership Act 2008, the Companies Act 2013, and the Negotiable Instruments Act 1881. It is a 100-mark descriptive paper.
Is solving the RTP enough to pass CA Foundation Business Laws?
No. The RTP is a revision and diagnostic tool, not a substitute for the ICAI Study Material or structured classes. It assumes the syllabus is already complete. Its real value is showing the answer structure ICAI awards marks against.
When does ICAI release the RTP for each CA Foundation attempt?
ICAI typically publishes the Revision Test Paper on its BOS portal roughly two months before the examination begins. We update this page with the direct PDF link for each new attempt as soon as it is released.
Are RTP questions repeated in the actual Business Laws exam?
ICAI does not guarantee repetition. In Business Laws, however, the same legal principles recur with changed case facts, because both the RTP and the question paper are drafted from the same syllabus coverage. Learn the provision, not the specific scenario.
Can I use Old Scheme Business Laws RTPs for the New Scheme exam?
Partly. The Contract Act, Sale of Goods Act, Partnership Act, LLP Act and Companies Act questions remain relevant. Skip the Business Correspondence and Reporting sections, which are no longer part of Paper 2, and note that the Negotiable Instruments Act was added only under the New Scheme.
