What is the CA Foundation Quantitative Aptitude RTP? The Revision Test Paper is an official ICAI document released before every attempt. How to Use the RTP for an MCQ Paper
Paper 3 is a 100% objective paper with 0.25 negative marking. That changes how the RTP should be used: your goal is not just the correct answer, but the fastest reliable method to reach it and the discipline to skip questions you cannot solve within the time budget.
1. Time yourself per question, not per paper
100 questions in 120 minutes means roughly 72 seconds per MCQ. Solve RTP questions against a stopwatch. A question you answer correctly in four minutes is still a failure in exam conditions.
2. Track wrong answers by section
Log every miss as Business Mathematics, Logical Reasoning or Statistics. Most students lose marks in one concentrated area — usually Calculus, Probability or Theoretical Distributions — and never notice until the pattern is written down.
3. Build a skip rule before the exam
With negative marking, a blind guess has negative expected value. Use the RTP to calibrate: if you cannot identify the method within 20 seconds, mark it for review and move on.
4. Prioritize formula-driven chapters
Time Value of Money, Ratio & Proportion, Indices, and Measures of Central Tendency are high-yield and fully formula-dependent. RTP questions from these chapters are the fastest marks in the paper.
5. Pair the RTP with an MTP and past papers
Each serves a distinct purpose in the final month of preparation:
| Resource | Released | Best used for |
|---|---|---|
| RTP | ~2 months before the attempt | Chapter-wise MCQ practice and identifying examination-relevant areas |
| MTP | ~3–4 weeks before the attempt | Full 100-question practice in exact exam format and 2-hour duration |
| Past Papers | After each attempt concludes | Gauging real difficulty level and repeated question patterns |

What does CA Foundation Paper 3 Quantitative Aptitude cover?
Paper 3 covers three sections: Business Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, and Statistics. It is a 100-mark objective paper of two hours' duration with 0.25 negative marking for each incorrect answer.
Is solving the RTP enough to pass CA Foundation Quantitative Aptitude?
No. The RTP is a revision and diagnostic tool, not a substitute for the ICAI Study Material or structured classes. It assumes the syllabus is already complete. Use it in the final six to eight weeks to test speed, accuracy and retention.
When does ICAI release the RTP for each CA Foundation attempt?
ICAI typically publishes the Revision Test Paper on its BOS portal roughly two months before the examination begins. We update this page with the direct PDF link for each new attempt as soon as it is released.
Are RTP questions repeated in the actual CA Foundation exam?
ICAI does not guarantee repetition. However, RTP questions frequently reappear with changed numerical values because both are drafted from the same syllabus coverage. Learn the method rather than memorising the answer.
Should I solve RTPs from older attempts?
Yes, for the last three attempts under the New Scheme. Older Old Scheme RTPs remain useful for Business Mathematics and Statistics question practice, since topic coverage overlaps substantially, but their format differs from the current objective pattern.
