Mentor – An Indispensable Necessity..!!

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”      Benjamin Franklin

Mentorship is the long existing relationship between two people working or studying in a similar field , where the more experienced one guides the other throughout . A  mentor is a special kind of helper who works with others in a positive, constructive way so that both the mentor and the protege have the potential to grow through the relationship. She/he is an individual willing to become part of a supportive and diverse community of learners, open to sharing experience, vulnerability, and expertise. A mentor seeks appropriate supervision, training, and support because it is through these systems that we learn, grow, and are accountable as professionals.

A mentor plays an important role in inculcating positive behavior in a mentee, in the following ways :

  • Experience beyond your years

A mentor is like a pool of experience and it is always beneficial to take a dive in that pool. A lot can be learnt from the experience of others.

  • Insight Beyond your knowledge

A mentor knows about your capabilities more than you know yourself and he guides you accordingly for the best outcome.

  • Mentors are inspiring

Mentors have gone through a lot to be what they are today. They are the only people who can inspire you in all ways possible. They have tackled complex knots on their way , so they make sure you too do not lose hope when you are stuck in between problems.

  • Becomes your one point contact

A mentor is the person who you can rely on blindly, and you know that no matter what blunders you have made , he will always be there to listen to you. You can call him whenever you need him at any point of time without hesitation.

  • Learn from his mistakes

At some point of time he was there in your place, and he too had made mistakes which he had to fix on his own. Now this experience of his prevents you from repeating them, as you are already aware of its consequences.
