Can I register for ACCA? 

Almost certainly yes — the question is which route you start on, not whether you can start at all. ACCA has three entry points, and students who do not meet the requirements for direct entry can begin at Foundation level instead.

You do not need a degree. You do not need to be from the commerce stream. What matters is which qualifications you already hold, and how ACCA classifies them.

How ACCA actually decides

This is the part most guides skip, and it is the only part that gives you a definite answer.

ACCA publishes a country-by-country table of qualifications on its own website. You find your country, find your qualification, and the table tells you plainly whether it is sufficient or insufficient for registration.

That table is the authority. Not a coaching website, and not this page. If you want a definite answer about your own position, that is where you look — and if your qualification is not listed, ACCA assesses it when you apply.

About the "65% in Maths and English" rule

You will see this figure on almost every Indian ACCA website: 65% in Mathematics or Accounts and English, plus 50% in your other subjects.

We are going to be straight with you about it.

ACCA's own published entrance criteria are framed around subject passes — five separate subjects including English and Mathematics or Accounts — rather than around specific percentage thresholds. The 65/50 figures are widely repeated in the Indian market, but we have not been able to confirm them as ACCA's stated wording.

What this means practically:

• Do not assume you are ineligible because you scored 60% in Accounts. Check ACCA's table before you conclude anything.
• Do not assume you are eligible because you cleared 65%. Your board, your subject combination and your specific certificate all matter.
• Ask ACCA, or ask us to help you check. A two-minute verification beats a year of acting on a number you read on a blog.

We would rather tell you the honest position than repeat a figure confidently and be wrong. If ACCA publishes specific percentage criteria for Indian qualifications, we will update this page to reflect them.

Do I need to be a commerce student?

No. This is one of the most common misconceptions we hear.

ACCA's requirement centres on English and Mathematics or Accounts. A science student with strong Mathematics is not excluded. Neither is an arts student who studied Mathematics.

The first level of the qualification — Business and Technology, Management Accounting and Financial Accounting — teaches accounting from the beginning. It does not assume you studied commerce at school.

What a commerce background gives you is familiarity, not eligibility. It makes the early papers feel easier. It does not decide whether you can register.
